In this compelling episode of VisionCraft Presents Coffee in the Green Room, hosted by Deneen White, we delve deep into the story of Ryan Clapham, one of VIP Ignite’s Inner Circle talents. Ryan’s path to the entertainment industry is anything but ordinary, spanning military service, advocacy, and an impressive career journey filled with twists and turns.
A Renaissance Career: From Chef to Soldier
Ryan’s career can best be described as eclectic. She started out in kitchens, working as a chef, but eventually found herself drawn to military service. Ryan’s time in the military saw her involved in some of the most high-tech and sensitive work, including computer systems repair and classified military technology. Serving in places like Fort Eustis, Virginia, and even participating in Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti, Ryan exemplifies the strength and resilience that marks her character.
Her military career was eventually cut short due to medical reasons, but Ryan’s story didn’t end there. Far from it. She returned to civilian life and re-entered the kitchen, working as a chef once again. But there was still so much more to her story.
Passion for Learning and Diverse Interests
Ryan’s passion for learning led her down multiple educational paths, including studying fashion design and even earning her Master’s in Public Health Administration. Her interests were vast—ranging from fashion to alternative medicine—but each field she explored added another layer to her evolving story.
Her experience in public health eventually led her to become an advocate, focusing particularly on healthcare issues faced by the transgender community. Ryan’s advocacy work has been instrumental in changing outdated policies, including securing the right for LGBTQ+ individuals to donate blood under more inclusive regulations. Her academic achievements, coupled with her drive for social justice, have positioned her as a voice for the marginalized and underrepresented.
Advocacy for Transgender Representation
What ultimately brought Ryan to the entertainment industry was her frustration with the lack of proper transgender representation. As someone who transitioned later in life, she noticed that many roles depicting transgender characters were being filled by cisgender actors. To Ryan, this felt like a misrepresentation of the transgender experience.
Determined to be part of the solution, she stepped into the world of acting and modeling. Ryan believes that authenticity in transgender roles is vital—not only for the integrity of storytelling but also for helping the audience truly understand the transgender experience. “I am not just a transgender actress,” Ryan states. “I am also a female actress.” Her determination to represent her community on screen is a powerful testament to her resilience and her belief in the importance of accurate, respectful representation in media.
Discovering VIP Ignite
Ryan’s connection with VIP Ignite came at a pivotal moment. Initially, she had put her acting and modeling aspirations on the back burner, but after her daughter decided not to pursue the industry, Ryan took the leap herself. “I realized now was the time,” she says. Working with VIP Ignite gave her the foundation she needed to pursue her passions in a way she hadn’t previously imagined.
Through VIP Ignite’s platform, Ryan has grown as a performer and as an advocate. VIP Ignite’s Inner Circle has allowed her to connect with others who share her drive and passion, propelling her forward in her career while giving her the space to be her authentic self.
Moving Forward: Screenwriting and Beyond
Ryan’s journey doesn’t stop at acting. She has also ventured into screenwriting, with several projects in the works that focus on telling the stories of people like herself—people whose voices are often overlooked or misrepresented. She’s now in the process of launching her YouTube channel, where she will further share her story and advocate for change.
“I’ve learned so much from VIP Ignite and the opportunities it has given me,” Ryan says. “Now, I want to help others understand the transgender experience through authentic storytelling.”
