We’ve all been there…
The butterflies in our stomach, the dry mouth, the shaking hands.
It’s normal to feel nervous before an audition, but sometimes that nerves can get the best of us and we don’t always give our best performance.
One of my favorite quotes is…
“If you want to fly with the eagles, you need to stop swimming with the ducks” – Alycia Kaback
How many times have you gone on a casting call and felt like you totally bombed it?
Maybe you forgot your lines, or maybe you just couldn’t seem to connect with the casting director. It happens to the best of us, but the good news is that it doesn’t have to be the end of the world.
If you’re struggling with nailing auditions, don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.
At VIP IGNITE LIVE for over almost two decades we have been creating success stories and taking talent from ordinary to extraordinary.
Check out our 7 tips below on how to win an audition, no matter what the role may be.
1. Do your research
Before you even step into the audition room, it is important to do your research about the role and the company. This means reading the script (if there is one available), learning about the characters and their motivations, and familiarizing yourself with the style of the play or film.
The more you know about the project, the better prepared you will be for your audition. At VIP IGNITE LIVE we always prepare our talent for success!
Make sure you understand the character you are auditioning for and be prepared to answer any questions the casting director may have about your interpretation of the role.
2. Think about what makes you unique
What are the things that make you stand out from the rest of the crowd? Are you particularly tall, short, or have an interesting look? Do you have a great sense of humor or an amazing singing voice? Whatever it is that makes you unique, make sure to highlight it during your introduction.
The casting directors are looking for people that are going to stand out on screen, so don’t be afraid to show them what you’ve got!
3. If you have an interesting story or experience, make sure to share it
We all have stories that make us who we are, and sometimes those stories can be the thing that sets us apart from the rest. If you have an interesting story or experience that you think would be relevant to the role you’re auditioning for, make sure to share it with the casting director.
You never know – it could be just the thing that gets you the part.
4. Be confident
This one is key. It doesn’t matter how great your introduction is if you’re not confident when you deliver it. So make sure to exude confidence when you’re speaking and keep eye contact with the casting directors throughout.
If you’re not confident in your abilities, it will show and the casting directors will be able to sense it. So even if you’re feeling a little bit nervous, try to fake it until you make it.
5. Be sincere and enthusiastic
When it comes to auditioning, casting directors are looking for people that are passionate about acting and truly believe in their craft. So even if you don’t think you’re the best actor in the room, if you show them that you’re sincere and enthusiastic about the role, it will go a long way.
So make sure to come across as sincere and enthusiastic in your introduction. If you love acting, let it show!
6. Practice, practice, practice
This one is a no-brainer. The more you practice, the better prepared you’ll be for your audition. So make sure to run through your lines as many times as possible before the big day.
It might also be helpful to ask a friend or family member to give you a mock audition so that you can get used to performing under pressure.
Involve your friends and family in the process and show them how dedicated you are to landing the role.
Again, practice makes perfect. So the more you do it, the better you’ll get.
7. Relax and have fun
Last but not least, it is important to relax and have fun during your audition. If you’re too tense, it will show in your performance. So take a few deep breaths, shake out your hands, and try to enjoy the experience.
Don’t let fear take over you – just let your natural talents shine through.
Casting directors are looking for people that are confident, sincere, and enthusiastic. So if you can show them that you’re all of those things, you’re sure to win an audition. Just remember to relax and have fun, and you’ll be sure to nail it.
At the end of the day, the casting directors are looking for someone that is not only talented but also easy to work with. So if you can show them that you’re a fun and relaxed person, you’ll be sure to win them over.
Conclusion
Auditions can be nerve-wracking, but if you follow these tips, you’ll be sure to give a great performance. Just remember to do your research, highlight your unique qualities, be confident and sincere, practice ahead of time, and relax and have fun. If you can do all of those things, you’re sure to win over any casting director.
Don’t worry about winning, the main thing is to give your best shot and enjoy the experience. Good luck! At VIP IGNITE LIVE our goal is your success – Alycia Kaback
